What’s a megacity made of? You never really know, but for five years I sought to give at least a partial accounting of my adopted city through my blog, Seoul Sub→urban. Using the subway system as an organizing structure, the photographers Liz Groeschen, Meagan Mastriani, Merissa Quek, Joshua Davies, Chris da Canha, and I explored more than 150 neighborhoods across the Korean capital, documenting their character, history, and highlights. While we visited the tourist haunts that show up in every guidebook, we also got to know quiet residential neighborhoods, industrial areas filled with blacksmiths, and the districts where young Koreans are shaping the future of Seoul. For my money, it’s the most interesting city in the world. To see some of what it’s made of, click the image above.
